The use of suction is based on one of the ideal laws of physics Boyle’s Law. Boyle’s Law, in simple terms, explains how balloons work. When you apply air into a balloon, the balloon expands uniformly. Boyle’s Law talks about pressure related to volume and temperature as having an effect on the pressure. But again when you blow up that balloon, it blows up uniformly. Negative pressure is the same equation with a negative in front. So, when you have a negative balloon, which essentially is a negative pressure wound dressing, the suction is the same through out the entire dressing regardless of the medium used.
